Home air quality has actually gotten much worse since the invention of tons of super insulating building materials. These materials insulate very well, but houses these days don't "breathe" anymore. 15 years ago, the house we lived in had single pane windows that air actually leaked around. We got a lot of fresh air in that house. These days, our houses are so airtight, the molds and dust and pet dander just float around, waiting for us to breathe. Then we get to "be the filter". Your lungs are great filtering wonders, but there is just so much they can take. That is why you should consider a home air purifier, and maybe one that uses Honeywell filters. Honeywell has been in the business of making HEPA filtration devices for many, many years. They have improved considerably over that last 15 years. Today's units, such as the Honeywell 17000, uses a Permanent HEPA Honeywell filter that has a 99.97% minimum effectiveness at collecting airborne particles as small as 0.3 microns from the air as it goes through. This unit is also very quiet, which means a lot if you have been around the loud units of the past.

A carbon filter is used as a pre-treatment to help remove odors and organic compounds that prolongs the life of the main filter. Honeywell filters are the leaders in this industry and this is a company that you can rely on. Most of their air purifiers come with a 5 year warranty.
